Can you introduce yourself?

I’m Stic from the hip hop group dead prez and founder of the RBG FIT CLUB movement. I’m a holistic lifestyle activist, long distance running coach, artist, producer, author, entrepreneur, father of two sons and married 26 years.

How long have you had your beard?

I’ve never shaved my bearded completely off so I’ve had it to some degree for over 25 years since it first started growing back in my early twenties.

What was your motivation to grow a beard?

Initially I just didn’t want to get razor bumps fooling around with razors and nor did I want to have the commitment of shaving all the time.  Aesthetically I’ve always wanted to let my beard grow (inspired by my dad’s awesome beard) because I like the masculine vibes but it has never grown as full as my dad’s beard who I think has one of the best groomed beards on the planet!

Do you recall encountering obstacles to grow your beard?

It just grows how it grows so I don’t consider it an obstacle. I always wanted the “pork chops” but to this day I haven’t grown hair in those side areas. My oldest son is 18 and he has them so it must have skipped a generation lol

Have you ever faced any negativity, discrimination or odd comments in regards to your beard?

Yeah years back I worked at McDonalds right when my goatee beard (Read fuzz) started to sprout and they gave me an ultimatum that I had to cut it or quit. So no more Mickey Dee’s but I still have my goatee.

Do you have a funny or positive anecdote in relation to your beard?

I used to snip the grays as they would pop up over the years but now there are too many to snip lol

How do you care for your beard? Do you have a daily or weekly routine? Do you go to a barbershop?

I go to Atlanta Hot Shave about 1-3 times a month. My barber name is Rashid and they offer premium organic men’s grooming services. I use natural oils, sometimes Shea butter and a hair brush. I wash my face and beard with organic black soap and rock it natural with minimal edging on my upper lip.

How important is fashion in your life? Do you style and shop for yourself?

I just like what I like. My fashion style is inspired by my lifestyle and cultural interests.

What is your advice to those who would like to grow their beards? Do you have any beard tips or tricks?

Drink water and eat a balance diet and lots of plants and fruits. Nourish your beard with natural oils and stay away artificial toxic ingredients.  Exercise and sweat often. Stay on your champion level of hygiene and keep your skin clean. Hit the steam room every now and then. And then just appreciate however your hair grows and let nature do what it does. Try styles that accentuate your face and speak up and let your barber know what you want. To each their own but for me I don’t need all kind of asymmetrically perfect trimmed lines or any of that superficial stuff, I just appreciate the natural.

Have you ever encountered anyone who thinks beards are dirty and thus needs to be shaved "clean"? What would be your answer to them?

Nah. I believe people should mind their business and respect what’s natural for others.

Is there anything else you would like to share with our bearded audience?

Be Healthy! Stay inspired! And check out our fit hop albums at RBGFITCLUB.com  THE WORKOUT, and the album HEALTHY GANGSTA  I don’t know it will put some hair on your face Lol but it will sure help motivate you to crush your workouts!
